Minor in Sustainability

Sustainability is increasingly central to how organizations, economies, and societies operate. The Sustainability Minor introduces students to the scientific foundations of sustainability and the ways scientific insight informs organizational and societal decision making. Designed to complement a wide range of majors, the minor provides students with a structured understanding of environmental systems and the challenges that arise at the intersection of human and natural systems.

Grounded in core concepts from the science of sustainability, the minor develops students' ability to interpret environmental data, think in systems, and critically evaluate sustainability-related claims. Students explore how scientific evidence shapes discussions of risk, responsibility, and long-term outcomes across sectors, without requiring prior scientific background. By building fluency in sustainability science and its real-world implications, the Sustainability Minor allows students to meaningfully engage with sustainability issues alongside their primary field of study. Sustainability is not a trend to be added on, but an essential framework for understanding the forces shaping the future.
